Miracle at Tenwek — The Life of Dr. Ernie Steury

"My prayer is that God will use his story to impact many more for a life of service to the King."—from foreword by Franklin Graham

Who doesn't enjoy reading about a life filled with God's provision, adventure, and dedication against seemingly overwhelming odds?

In Miracle at Tenwek you'll read how a simple farm boy from Indiana went on to build one of the world's most successful medical missions in Tenwek, Kenya. But medicine was only one component of this life lived for Christ's kingdom.

Dr. Steury worked to heal bodies and souls, helping you see how God can do great things through those committed to Him.

This book is an interesting, engaging biography of Ernie Steury. The author is an excellent storyteller, vividly portraying Ernie Steury's life and personality through dramatic, amazing, and funny stories. The book does cover some of his childhood and early adulthood, but mainly focuses how God used Ernie Steury in Kenya. Much information is included about the local culture and the problems local customs created during medical treatment, like the superstitions about death, blood, and spirits and the practices of female circumcision and infanticide. However, the living conditions at the hospital weren't as primitive as in some missionary books. Most of the surgery scenes are not highly graphic, but the few that are might make people queasy if they get queasy watching TV surgery scenes. The book quotes letters and articles written by Dr. Steury to show the emotional stresses and ups and downs of missionary work. It also includes quotes from family, friends, and staff. I'd highly recommend this book to anyone interested in medical missions.

Thank you so very much for the book about Dr. Steury. It is a most wonderful book. It is beautifully written and definitely glorifies the Lord. Even in the re-telling of the stories I, as the reader, could see God’s hands and strength being used.
